SAAGNY News

  • May 17, 2019 1:16 PM | Donna-Jean Plante

Our SAAGNY team, Michael Reisbaum, Rick Brenner, Michele Jennrich, and Brian Deissroth, represented SAAGNY in Washington D.C. at Legislative Education and Action Day (L.E.A.D.) for the past two days.  They participated in L.E.A.D. which delivers the promotional products industry's message to Capitol Hill.  Over 70 representatives from PPAI, SAAGNY, and other regionals  participated in more than 300 meetings with Congressional officials.

The talking points for these meetings included:

    • Tax Reform and its Impact on Small Business
    • Role of Independent Contractors Within the Promotional Products Industry
    • Effective Use of Promotional Products
    • Global Value Chains - Adding a human face to the Promotional Products Industry by Explaining to Congress that even though many of our industry's products are imported, once these products are brought to the U.S. they are decorated and sold by American workers, and used to promote American goods and services
    • Creating Awareness and Support of the Promotional Products Industry

Each year, industry professionals travel to Washington D.C. to educate members of Congress and their legislative staff about the effectiveness of promotional products and the strength of our $24 billion industry that employs nearly half a million Americans.

This participation is vital to the preservation and growth of our industry.  While we know not everyone can participate in Washington D.C., you can support the efforts of L.E.A.D. by reaching out to your elected officials that will support L.E.A.D.’s efforts in D.C.  Please click here for further information on how to reach your legislative official.

Distributor sales accelerated at a rapid pace in 2018, posting annual growth of 6.27 percent and pushing industry sales to a record $24.7 billion for the year, according to PPAI's Sales Volume Survey. The Association's survey, an annual estimate of U.S. distributor promotional products sales, registered particularly robust performance among the industry's smaller distributors—sales under $2.5 million—who experienced a 12.27 percent increase over 2017. Larger companies in the survey saw only a 1.92 percent increase in sales.

The industry-wide survey, conducted this spring and reflecting the experiences of 24,240 distributor companies, also highlighted the online channel's continued growth as a share of promotional products sales. Online sales represented 25.3 percent of the sales volume in 2018, up 2.1 points from 23.2 percent in 2017. Total online sales grew 16.2 percent to $6.27 million from $5.4 million in 2017.

PPAI's survey also registered a 10.6 percent year-over-year increase in sales from non-industry providers in 2018. On average, distributors earned $3.75 billion in sales of products sourced from non-industry providers, or 15.2 percent of the total sales volume.

PPAI has collected and released industry sales data since 1965 and maintains an extensive industry sales information library. Its annual distributor sales survey reflects actual sales data reported by U.S. distributor companies and is considered the most definitive and comprehensive of its kind in the industry.

AIN'T TOO PROUD is the electrifying new musical that follows The Temptations' extraordinary journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
